MOS Pat Clark Concerto Competition

The Mason Symphony invites students in the mid-Michigan area to participate in our annual Pat Clark Concerto Competition. The winner of the competition will be invited to perform a movement from their chosen concerto with the Mason Symphony at their May 17, 2019 concert.

Competition Dates: Sunday, February 3, 2019
Competition Location: University United Methodist Church
Application Fee: $30*
Application Deadline: January 10, 2019

Eligibility

  • Student must not yet be 18
  • Must live in or take lessons in mid-Michigan.
  • If you are enrolled in a college-level conservatory or department with music performance as your major, you are not eligible.
  • Competition winner must be able to attend the following rehearsals with Mason Symphony in 2019: April 23, April 30, May 7, May 14, and May 15.

Repertoire

Student must perform 1 movement from a major concerto with orchestral accompaniment or other orchestral piece with a soloist. The music must be memorized. In an event the chosen music is not in public domain, it is responsibility of the applicant to provide orchestral accompaniment.

Accompanist

Each student must provide their own accompanist the day of the competition.

Day of Competition

The judges will listen to 10 minutes of music - it is acceptable for the student to make cuts to showcase the most stylistically important portions of the work. Student must provide judges with a clean copy of their music (cuts marked as needed).
