About Us

The Mason Orchestral society serves the greater Lansing/Mid-Michigan area by providing opportunities for local musicians to further hone their music skills, and providing quality music performances to the public. The society is made up of three different orchestras, the Mason Symphony, the Mason Philharmonic and the Mason Chamber Orchestra.

Mason Symphony Orchestra

For advanced and intermediate players, the Mason Symphony is a full orchestra performing 4-5 concerts throughout the season. Repertoire can be challenging, although we do not wish to discourage interested players from sitting in on a trial rehearsal. Members of the Symphony will occasionally play smaller chamber ensemble pieces.

Mason Philharmonic Orchestra

The Mason Philharmonic is designed for developing performers of all ages interested in playing in a non-competitive, friendly atmosphere. Musicians have the opportunity to play in an ensemble, learn orchestral key signatures, make new friends and perform for the public. If you have only been playing for a few years, or have not played as an adult for some time, the Mason Philharmonic is a great place to refresh and/or improve your musical skills.

If you play an instrument, this is your chance to play with an orchestra.  All instruments are needed for the Mason Philharmonic, and strings & percussion are needed for the Mason Symphony.

For the 2021-2022 season, we are tentatively exploring rehearsing indoors and planning in person concerts.

An annual membership fee of $50 helps to support our organization, including orchestra conductors and concert venue fees. If more than one member of a family participates, the family membership fee is $60.

The Philharmonic typically rehearses from 6:30-8:00pm on Mondays, and are open for sign-ups. Please note that for the 2021-2022 season, we are planning to meet in person while keeping all safe through social distancing.

The Symphony typically rehearses on Tuesdays from 7:00-9:00pm. We are planning to meet in person, though we ask members to be vaccinated and we will practice social distancing with masks. To express interest in joining our Symphony orchestra, please fill out our Symphony Orchestra Inquiry form.
